“It is true that animals are usually not able to participate in their liberation, but they behave differently when they are liberated and have better living conditions.”

Antonia Baehr is a Berlin-based choreographer, performer, filmmaker and visual artist. Her pieces are characterised by a non-disciplinary working method, examining the fiction of the everyday and the fiction of the theatre. Animals often appear in her work.

For the project Abecedarium Bestiarium – Portraits of Affinities in Animal Metaphors, Antonia Baehr invited her friends to write short pieces for her, based on an ABC of extinct animals: D is for Dodo, T is for Tasmanian tiger, S is for Steller’s sea cow and so on. The authors chose an extinct animal that they felt strongly about. The series of etchings displayed at the exhibition is part of the book and performance. The etchings are by Antonia Baehr, Dodo Heidenreich, Nanna Heidenreich, Mirjam Junker, Itamar Lerner, Catriona Shaw, Ida Wilde and Steffi Weismann.
